Your body size and the garment size are different numbers

A tape round your chest gives your body size. A shirt laid flat and doubled gives the garment size. The gap between the two is the ease: about 3 inches for a slim shirt, 5 for regular and 7 for relaxed; 2.5 to 5.5 inches for a blazer; 4 to 8 for a kurta.

That is why our chart has two views. Your body tells you the size. The finished garment view shows what we cut for that size in the fit you choose. Always measure the body, never a garment: we add the ease.

How Find my size works

Our measurement AI has learnt from hundreds of customers whose bodies our tailors measured by hand. From your height, weight and age it estimates your chest, stomach, shoulder, waist and hip, each with a range, and picks the size whose range holds you.

It also says how sure it is. Tested on 667 customers it had not seen, the AI's size for shirts, kurtas and jackets was within one size of the tailor's 96 times in 100, and when it said Strong match it was right 96 times in 100. Two sizes are only 2 inches apart, so when you fall between them it tells you, and a single tape measurement of your chest or waist settles it.

Stomach, shoulders and fit move the size

Tops are sized by chest, but a stomach fuller than the chest decides the size of a buttoned shirt or jacket, so the front closes without pulling. Broad shoulders move a shirt up one size, because a shoulder cannot be let out. Trousers go by waist, and a fuller hip moves them up.

Between two sizes, slim fit takes the smaller and relaxed fit the larger.

When to choose custom measurements instead

Every Maviinci suit, kurta and sherwani can be cut to your own measurements, and standard sizes are a shortcut for when you want one. If you are outside the chart, between sizes on two measurements, or ordering for an occasion where fit matters most, give us your measurements or book a fitting.
